Electrical and Electronic principles7

Aims and Objectives
The purpose of this lab is to study the representations of electrical signals by using various techniques such as representing mathematical expression of sinusoid in the capacitive and inductive circuits and phasor representation of voltages and currents in the given circuits. Draw the circuits using Multisim on your PC and then perform simulation to confirm your calculated results. By the end of this lab, you should be able to analyse all the circuits (when supplied with AC) by using the mathematical and phasor methods. You are required to record all activities (observations, results and comments) in your logbook as you perform the calculations, analysis and simulation.
Equipment required:
Desktop PC, NI Multisim software, scientific calculator and Logbook

Procedure:

1.     In the following figure, e = 100sin(157t + 30o):

a.    Obtain the sinusoidal expression for current, i.
b.    Find the value of inductance, L.
c.    Calculate the average power loss by the inductor.
d.    Simulate the circuit to confirm your calculations.

2.    In the following figure, i = 3sin(377t – 20o):

a)    Obtain the sinusoidal expression for voltage, v.
b)    Find the value of capacitance, C in microfarads.
c)    Calculate the average power loss by the capacitor.
d)    Simulate the circuit to confirm your calculations.

3.    For the network shown in the figure and the applied source:

a)    Determine the currents, i1 and i2.
b)    Find supply current, is.
c)    Simulate the circuit to confirm your calculations.

4.    For the network shown below and the applied source:

a)    Find the currents, i1 and i2.
b)    Determine source voltage, vs.
c)    Simulate the circuit to confirm your calculations.

5.    Express the following phasor currents and voltages as sine waves if the frequency is 60Hz:

a)
b)
c)
d)
e)
f)

6.    For the system shown in the following figure, find the sinusoidal expression for the unknown voltage Va if:

ein = 60 sin(377t +200)
vb = 20 sin377t
